Thinking about joining Omega Phi Alpha? Below are Questions and Answers that you might be wanting the answer to. If you still want more infomation about pledging contact our pledge educator Laura Provost.
What is the first step to pledging?
• The first step to pledge OPA is to come to Rush and meet the sisters. This is important so that you can find out if OPA is right for you. The sisters of OPA are always there to help you. We have a no hazing policy which means our members only offer friendship and responsible guidance for their OPA Sisters.
What is rush?
• Rush is a way to come and meet new people in order for you to decide whether an organization is right for you. During Rush you will be informed about OPA and what we are all about. Free food and refreshments will also be provided.
Why should I come to rush?
• In order to join OPA, rush is the first step. Rush allows the active sisters to get to know the rushees (the girls who attend rush), and the rushees to get to know the sisters of OPA. Even if you decide not to pledge you will still have a great time getting to know new people at the univeristy.
Is there a rush fee?
• No, attendence to OPA's rush is all free.
How much does OPA cost?
• To pledge OPA, there is a $150 fee, which includes, National, pledge and activation fees. Then as a sister OPA is $100/semester. Other costs for OPA inclue t-shirts (if you want one) and formal.
Is rush mandatory?
• Since rush is the first step into joining OPA, rush is mandatory. Out of the four nights, we like for the rushees to attend at least two nights, one of them being Thursday. However if you have scheduling conflicts; we can work with your schedule.
What should I wear?
• OPA's rush is very casual. Since we are trying to get to know each other, we want rushees to feel comfortable and be themselves. OPA does not focus on what you are wearing; instead we are more interested in who you are. So if you want to wear jeans and a t-shirt that's perfect, but if you feel like wearing your pajamas, that's fine too. However, for interviews on Thursday, we like the girls to wear business attire.
Do I have to stay the whole time?
• We do not require that rushees to stay the whole time, but we do encourage rushees to stay long enough to mingle and get to know the sisters. If your class schedule conflicts, we are more than willing to accomodate with your schedule.
